If you’ve ever wanted to step into a storybook or feel like a character from your favorite fantasy series, this one’s for you.

Back in March, I had the absolute joy of photographing a fantasy session with Abarar in Downingtown, PA. And wow, did she bring the magic! From the location to the styling, everything about this session felt like it came straight out of a novel.

We had one of those classic Pennsylvania weather curveballs. It had been warming up for days so I thought we'd have nice weather, but the day of our session decided to be freezing which is just my luck. Despite the surprise cold, Abarar was such a good sport. You’d never know from the photos that we were both shivering between shots! Jackets were kept close by and we had hot hands at the ready to help with the cold.

We started in a soft, flowy dress among the ruins of old stone buildings. I love the contrast between the elegance and softness of the dress and the stone. The sunlight poured in through the trees and hit just right, giving everything this warm, fairytale glow (even if it didn’t feel warm at all in real life!). It felt like the beginning of a magical tale. Peaceful, timeless, and a little bit enchanted.

Then we switched to the the second look. A total transformation. Abarar changed into an all-black fantasy outfit with leather and a cloak, and we made our way down by the water under a stone bridge. The scene shifted to something darker, edgier, and fierce. With her long dark hair and confident gaze, she looked like a badass assassin ready to take on whatever the story threw her way. We walked a little along a trail to add some shots of her in the trees and standing on a rock in the creek.

Abarar recently moved to Philly from Massachusetts, and I loved hearing about her experience settling into a new place and embracing creativity in a whole new setting. It’s always so fun getting to connect with people during sessions. She was such a pleasure to capture and was totally down for the fantasy vibes.

Fantasy photography lets you explore all these different versions of yourself. Whether it’s soft and ethereal or bold and powerful. This session had both, and Abarar brought them to life in the most beautiful way.
