Booking senior pictures is exciting, but I also know it can come with a lot of unknowns. Most seniors have never done a professional photo session before, and even if they have, most do not feel like a model in front of a camera. That can lead to nerves and anxiety about doing senior pictures.

Being a senior picture photographer in Lancaster PA and photographing lots of seniors over there years, here are a few things I truly wish every client knew before their senior picture session.

You do not have to know how to pose

This is probably the number one worry I hear.
“I’m awkward in photos.”
“I don’t know what to do with my hands.”
“I don’t know how to look good.”
“I’m not a natural in front of a camera.”

All of that is completely okay. I’ve got you.

It is not your job to show up knowing how to model. That is my job. I guide you through natural movements, prompts, and poses the entire time. I will tell you where to stand, what to do with your hands, and how to move so nothing feels stiff or forced. By the end of the session, it's my goal for you to feel that having professional photos done was way more fun and easier than you might have anticipated.

You just have to show up and be yourself. I'll take care of the posing.

The best photos come from connection, not perfection

Your hair does not have to be flawless. Your smile does not have to be perfect. You do not need to look like someone you saw on Instagram.

What truly makes senior photos special is you. Your laugh. Your personality. Your hobbies. Your style.

Some of my favorite images are the in-between moments. The real smiles. The movement. Talking about what you love and what you are excited for. During the session, we will talk and connect so that you can feel at ease. That will help make your gallery feel like you and your senior year, not a copy of someone else’s.

Feeling a little nervous is completely normal

Even seniors who do love taking photos sometimes feel unsure at the beginning. Being in front of a camera can feel vulnerable; it's just you and your "on the spot". I expect these nerves so I take that time in every session for you to ease into it. I'll also walk you through every step to help build trust and confidence before the session even starts.

At the beginning of the session, we start simple. We talk. We start with easy poses. We do not rush. Within a few minutes, the nerves usually melt away, and that is when the magic really starts to happen.

You are not the only one who has ever felt that way, and you definitely will not be the last.

Your session is more than just pictures

Senior year is a big transition. You are standing in the space between childhood and adulthood, and that can feel exciting, emotional, and a little overwhelming all at once.

Your session is a chance to pause. It's a moment to celebrate who you are right now and to feel confident and seen. I care deeply about creating an experience where you feel comfortable, hyped up, and genuinely good about yourself.

Yes, you will walk away with beautiful senior photos. But I also hope you walk away thinking, “Wow, that was actually so fun.”

You are allowed to take up space

This season of life goes fast. Your senior pictures are one of the few times where the focus is fully on you. Your story. Your personality. Your accomplishments.

You do not have to shrink yourself or worry about being “too much.” This session is about celebrating you exactly as you are which is always a pleasure for me to document. I cherish every senior I get to photograph.
